Hydra, Greece

Yesterday we got up pretty early (enough to go to the bakery) to travel to Piraeus - the port city - to catch a ferry for Hydra, Greece.  Hydra is an island off of the coast of the Argolid.

The population of the island is just under 2000 and the port town is really the only town.  No cars on this island.  Only donkeys.  We took an express ferry so we got there in only 1.5 hours which was nice after remember some loooong ferries we took last time to other islands.

Basically the island is for relaxation.  They have some walking paths around that were very nicely marked.  We took one up to the top of a peak.  It was a nice walk that gave us a nice feel for the island.  There was a nice rest stop along the way for photos.

Then we reached the top and hung out for a while.  I read my book and Tyler took some pictures .

After we made our way back down, we decided to grab some lunch.  I must note that we decided at the end of the day that this island had the most cats/sq.ft. that we've seen.  There were also plenty of dogs.  I always thought that there are only big dogs in Athens so all of the little dogs end up on islands.  We had some nice company during lunch - snaggle tooth pooch!

After lunch we walked around, read, sat, and relaxed until our trip home.  We also made friends with a cat and saw cats do some pretty interesting things.

When we got home we got some food and brought it back to the apartment and rested.  We are both getting anxious for the race!!!  Today we plan to rest most of the day by going souvenir shopping and then going out for dinner.
