Yesterday we woke up in our lovely hotel in Sparta, Greece and were greeted by some sunlight for a change.
We had another wonderful hotel breakfast and were on our way.
First we took a walk to the end of the town to see the Spartan statue. I also snapped a picture of our car to have.
Then we walked around Sparta to find the museum. We had the whole place to ourselves which was pretty nice. It is a small museum but had some nice things.
After the museum we got in the car and drove up to the Byzantine site of Mystras. At this point the weather was still in our favor so we were optimistic. Mystras is a old town on a mountain so you have to climb to get to the top and we were just hoping to get to the top before the rain started.
And we did. It is quite a sight from up top. You can see the whole town of Sparta and beyond.
It was at that point that the rain started but we made it down to the car safely. And away we went to Olympia. The man at the car rental place advised us to drive through the mountains to Olympia and not take the highway. It was awesome. The photos really don't do it any justice. But we drove literally zig-zagged up the entire mountain to the top to get through to the next town. It was such a great drive. The leaves are changing over here to so everything was so beautiful.
We arrived in Olympia and checked into yet another adorable hotel. We walked around town, got coffee, window-shopped and got dinner. It was delicious.
On our way back to the hotel we got caught up in conversation with a local. He wanted us to spread the word that the Greeks are very welcoming of all people so come and visit :-)
