Views from Above

Yesterday was a wonderful day.  The sun was out and we got some of our Athens tourist things done.  First we were off to the Acropolis.  Although we both have been there a few times.  I still never gets old.  The way it is situated in this busy city.  I love that even the streets around the Acropolis are calmer.  The sun was out and the sky was clear so you could see the edges of the city.

The Parthenon.  Such a beautiful building. There was much more scaffolding up this year than two years ago.  Although I did read that this summer they took down all of the scaffolding for the first time in 30 years.

Tyler had an idea to get a picture in from of the Parthenon in his running clothes so we went with this and had so much fun.  The pictures came out great and now we are both considering fields in modeling and photography. (Just kidding)

In case you may not know, the Acropolis contains other buildings as well.  Like the Erechtheion.  Which has a beautiful porch that I love.  It is also very mis-shapened and unusual because of the natural foundation.

From above there were great views of some parts of Athens like the Temple of Zues, the Agora (with the Temple of Hephestion), Lykavittos hill (which is where we went next), and some old theaters.

After the Acropolis we went right next door to the Acropolis Museum.  This museum is very new and modern (2009).  They were very particular about the design which had to incorporate: visual contact with the monuments of the Acropolis, exhibit the Parthenon sculptures in their entirety, and to adapt the building to the archaeological excavation that extends across its foundations.  You are not able to take photos in many parts of the museum but you can photograph in the Parthenon Gallery.

From the Acropolis area we made our way over to Lykavittos hill.

On our way back we got to make my most anticipated stop of the trip - Crepes :-)  It was more than amazing.

Today we are planning to do the National Archeological Museum and enjoying this city for our last couple days.
